Stress Solutions for Business

The National Institute for Occupational Safely and Health (NIOSH) have defined jobs stress as essentially being when job requirements do not match the resources, needs or capability of the worker. Northwestern National Life have identified that approximately one fourth of employees see their jobs as the biggest stressor in their lives. Stress solutions are numerous, however the NIOSH has been able to concisely summarize those solutions. Teleworking solutions are fast becoming a viable choice to reduce stress for both employer and employee.

Here are some fundamental stress solutions as outlined by NIOSH:

Strive to create balance in between work life and family life
A support system that includes co-workers as well as friends
Striving to maintain a relaxed and positive outlook

NIOSH also lists the early warning signs of stress as being:

Headaches
Sleep problems
Having trouble concentrating
Short temper
Upset stomach
Dissatisfied with job
Morale that’s Low

NIOSH has listed a summary of items to help Prevent Job Stress:

Building awareness of Job stress, such as the causes, the costs, and possible solutions Having top management committed to supporting programs that solve stress issues
Allowing the employee to be involved in stress solution programs
Using Job Stress Consultants or hold in-office training

Solving the work related stress issues of today must involve thinking outside the box. Some companies have already started seeking solutions by implementing flexible work programs for their employees, such as teleworking options. As per the Telework Coalition, more than 22.2 million americans Teleworked in 2005, meaning they worked at home or other location away from the office.

According to  “Commuting in America” a study for the National Academies, based mostly on census data, telecommuting, or working from home, is one of the fastest growing trends. The author of the report believes it will only increase in the future.

Fascinating statistics from the July 2006 Hudson Highland Group:

23% of workers work at home or are given the choice
59% agree that working part time is an appealing option
(includes 38% who think having the choice to come into to the office or work from home is ideal, and 21% who say the best option is working at home)
73% rarely or never get work done during their commute
(despite technology permitting employees to work when heading
to and from work)

Productivity tools such as being able to implement Remote PC Access, Online Meetings, or Computer Phone Calling, are practical options available to employers and employees so who want to structure optional work-at-home programs. Once in-place, companies must then learn to manage the virtual workforce and acquire tools needed for the employee to stay connected. To summarize, in 2005 44% of US Companies offered some type of telecommuting option, which was up from 32% in 2001. The International Telework Association and Council (ITAC), estimates that there will be over 40 million teleworkers in the US by 2010. It’s safe to say that practical job solutions for work stress will involve the use of teleworking tools.

Tips on Resumes and What to do Thereafter

Nowadays, online resources make it much easier for college graduates to search for jobs and start working on a career that will enable them to achieve their dreams in life. The World Wide Web gives easy and convenient access to various job search sites and online career advices. With the technology we have today, it is much more easy and quick to get hired and paid. By just entering keywords in search engines, you are being exposed to hundreds and thousands of possible employers and with just a click of a button, you are on your way to getting the job you desire.

But even with all the information that can be obtained online, some college students still find it hard to begin a career after graduation. There may be several explanations here but the major reason why some graduates still find it hard is because they do not know where to begin. If you are a college graduate seeking a job, then you have probably asked yourself these questions - What do I want to do for a living? What type of company do I want to work for? Am I willing to relocate?

Tough questions? Perhaps. But every journey starts with a first step, which in our case would be to make a first impression through writing a perfect resume. Here are some great tips on how to write your perfect resume.

  • Before writing your resume, you have to take into consideration the type of job you are applying for. Think of specific keywords that your employer might search for in your resume. Here are some examples:
  1. Ability to (uphold, delegate, supervise, etc.)
  2. Analytical ability
  3. Detail oriented
  4. Problem solving skills
  5. Result driven
  6. Communication skills
  7. Team leader
  • Personalize your resume:
  1. Create a positive first impression. Showcase your communication skills and make sure your resume is easy to read. In most cases you won’t get a second chance to impress the employer so you better do it right the first time.
  2. Tell who you are. Inform the reader about your most prominent qualifications and why they should hire you for the job. There’s no need to lie though. Majority of the employers out there would prefer an honest resume so they would know what to expect from you.
  3. Describe what you have learned. For a fresh graduate, it is understandable and expected that you do not possess any work experience. In this case, the best thing to do is to highlight the courses, seminars and projects that you participated in and attended.
  4. Make a list of your achievements. At this point, there is no need to be modest. Show your employer the achievements and awards you have acquired in the past and list them down accordingly.
  • After writing your resume make sure to:
  1. Adjust and edit as needed.
  2. Print out the resume that you have created to see how it would look like on paper.
  3. Remember to bring your resume in every interview that you go to in case your interviewer would need a copy.

Once you have finished creating your resume, do not confine yourself in just one job opening. Give yourself options. It’s a big wide world and there are plenty of places to start your career. UK, for one, offers many opportunities for fresh graduate students to begin their career. Choosing a good conducive environment as well as colleagues whom you can work harmoniously with at the early stages of your career reduce the chances of you feeling regretful later on. It is quite vital that you get on track right from the start.

Whether it is Healthcare and Pharmaceuticals, Industrial and Engineering, Banking and Finance, Technology or any other sector, UK graduate jobs prove to be the best starting point for one’s career. The UK job market understands that fresh graduates still do not have any job experiences. That is why the best job opportunities from top employers are opened for college graduates. Why settle for unpaid experiences when you can get hired and paid by top companies, adding up work experience as you travel down the road of your chosen career?

Whatever sector you choose in the UK; from graduate jobs in sales, graduate jobs in retail, graduate management jobs, graduate consultancy jobs or graduate leisure and travel jobs, you got to choose the ultimate resource for discovering your future. It is imperative to gain knowledge about leading companies, industry news, emerging sectors, salary terms and much more, so you can make an educated decision.

Looking for Good Career Change Advice?

So, you are considering a career change and you want career change advice.  However, those who are close to you may not agree with you. You may hear that you shouldn’t be changing careers “at your age” and that “it’s a job, you aren’t supposed to like it.”  But both of these are very false.

It is important, though, to thoroughly assess your situation and find a career that is right for you, where you gain satisfaction and fulfillment from the career. When you do that, you will have all the ammunition that you need to combat those nay sayers who want you to stay where you are. And this career change advice can help you begin your journey.

1. Are you stuck in a rut?

This is the most basic question to ask and one that is often overlooked.  Do you actually like your job?Are feeling like you just can’t get any more out of your job and it is making you unhappy with life?  Do you dread returning to work after a day off?  Keep a log of how you react to various job issues.  Jot down various thoughts that you have about your job throughout the day - those that are positive as well as negative.  Don’t just focus on the tasks; also think about the company culture, your co workers and other factors.  For instance, do you work for a corporation but you are more idealistic in nature?

2. Your Skills, interests and personal values

There are lots of free skills and interest assessments that you can take on the internet.  Think about things you have done in the past that you enjoyed including volunteer work, activities you did in college or school and jobs that you really liked.  Take a hard look at your skills and values.  Is your current career addressing them?  There are some really good websites out there that can give you some solid career change advice and point you in the right direction.

3. Changing  jobs or changing careers?

When you change jobs you are typically making a lateral move.  A career change is usually not even on the same scale and often requires different or additional skills.  When you are deciding on a move, take a moment to think about it.  Are you making a lateral move?  Or are you making a move into a job that challenges you more and asks more of you than your current job?

4. Do your homework

Select several career choices and read up on them.  Read about the requirements as well as any additional education or skills that are needed.Changing careers need serious preparation.

5. Talk to those who are already there

Talk to some professionals who are already in the career of your choice.  They can be great sources to give you career change advice.  Ask if you can shadow them for a few hours or a few days so that you can get a feel for what the career entails.  Ask questions and learn about the education and skills that they needed to get to the place that they are.

A career change can be a difficult and stressful thing, but if a second career is something that you are seriously considering, there is a good chance that it will be worth it.Think about what a career change can do for you, and get yourself started.

Explore More About Graphic Design Job - Useful Tips

How To Develop A Graphic Design Job Portfolio

A graphic design portfolio is the best way to display and showcase your past projects, creativity, and talent. A graphic design portfolio is vital when trying to pursue opportunities as a graphic designer within a company or as a freelance graphic designer pursuing clients.

The first important step in developing a graphic design portfolio is deciding what work to include. You should only include your highest quality work in your graphic design portfolio. If you include mediocre work in your graphic design portfolio simply because you are concerned about not having enough pieces in your graphic design portfolio, you will lose important job offers and clients - this is the mistake of many website designers. It is better to have a few pieces in your graphic design portfolio that really showcase your talent and creativity than have many pieces that do not help you build a solid reputation as a graphic designer.

The next step in developing a graphic design portfolio is deciding what type of graphic design portfolio you want to create. There are four main types of graphic design portfolios: printed pages in a binder, an online graphic design portfolio, images placed on a graphic design portfolio CD, or a slideshow of images placed on a graphic design portfolio DVD. Really, it is best to create one of each type of graphic design portfolio so that you are fully prepared to offer whatever your prospective employer or client is prepared to look at to judge your talent and creativity as a graphic designer.

To create a graphic design portfolio of printed pages, you should choose only your best work, and only the best quality printed copies. If you are unsure of the quality of your home printer, put the images on a disk and have them printed for you at a print shop. The best quality and most creative pieces can look mediocre if not printed with high quality printing. You should then present the pieces in a professional manner. The best color for a graphic design printed portfolio is black, and the most professional style is leather. This should be something that is spiral bound, a book, or a case so that you can add or remove pieces from your graphic design portfolio easily as you progress in your graphic design career.

To create a graphic design portfolio online, you will first need web space. Website hosting and domain registration has become very cost effective. But if you know how to choose free hosting with ftp - everything becomes possible.

Most websites also give you free website building tools so that you don’t have to know HTML. However, make sure that you sign up for website hosting with enough bandwidth to handle all of the images and potential traffic. Once you have your website set up, you’ll want to choose your pieces carefully. Display them as thumbnails on one page, with each full scale piece appearing on another page when the thumbnail is clicked.

To create a graphic design portfolio on DVD or CD, you must have a computer with a DVD or CD burner. To make really professional DVD or CD graphic design portfolios, you will want to get a CD or DVD burning kit that allows you to burn images onto the top of the CD or DVD and create labels for jewel cases. You can either save individual pieces on the CD or DVD, or you can simply save a copy of your website on the disc.

Make Money Working At Home - Truth About Making Money At Home

So how does one make money with a home business? Well, if we could give you the answer in one sentence then of course we would but the stats show over 95 per cent of home business attempts fail.

So why is home business still such an attractive proposition to the masses? It’s a mystery especially when figures tell you your chances of failing are extremely high. We figure we have the answer and in two words it’s work ethic.

Good old work ethic and it goes something like this. Some leaves their permanent job to start a home business and go into it with the mindset that now their life is about to change. The relaxation of knowing you can simply walk down the corridor to your office without wrestling traffic is a huge factor. But this is where the problem starts.

The truth is, running a home business in the set up stage should be no different than a job. You need to have commitment and surprise, you should organize yourself some supervision via a mentor.

Make Money With A Home Business

So before you look at how to make money with a home based business you first need to get a structure in place relating to how much time and resources you are willing to put into it.

A home business won’t grow and make money for you on it’s own. Residual income can be an attractive proposition with an inter-network marketing business for example but to get it to the stage where it is earning you residual income, means there is going to be a definite period of sweat equity put into it.

The unfortunate truth is, most people are not self starters. That’s why the majority rely on a job which pays them for their efforts. As much as this may hurt, people generally appreciate the idea of being supervised and want to avoid making decisions.

So when this attitude is taken into the home business environment most flounder which means lack of effort results in lack of income. There needs to be a mindset shift even before you think about leaving the security of your job.

Yes, you can make make money working at home but remember the old analogy of cause and effect. Without a cause then there is no effect and you are probably better off with the security of a job paycheck. In other words, unless you work your business then the results will be sparse to non-existent. It takes effort especially in the early stages.

Hit By Recession – Start You Own Franchise Business

UK franchise business opportunities are increasing mainly due to the demand stemming from people in all walks of life no longer wanting to rely on employment as a means to future financial stability. Developing your own income or business seems a viable alternative to many.

With any market sector where there is a growth in demand you will see increased levels of activity and an up swelling of business entrepreneurs eager to fulfil the hungry marketplace. Many business owners have looked at their own business models and discovered how to duplicate it in the form of a franchise which others can then take advantage of no matter what the financial climate.

But a question often asked will be is the franchise business right for me?

Investing in your own business is a daunting decision with challenges to face, both physically and emotionally, with franchise opportunities the work load and level of responsibility are high and commitment has to be 100%. The plus point however is that previous experience isn’t always necessary as there is a lot of guidance and help on offer.

Having decided to break out of the mould of the employee lifestyle and opting to pursue a successful franchise is only the beginning of your road to success. You need to choose franchise or select a opportunity that most matches your existing or a developed skill set that you feel you can achieve.

People often don’t consider the franchise business as a viable option to them as they have no previous experience of setting up and running their own business. Whilst previous experience can be helpful and an added bonus the principles are the same as with any business idea, hard work, enthusiasm and commitment.

As with any pursuit in life your mental attitude will separate you from the masses so if you have an “it always happens to me” mentality or are easily knocked down and take a while to get back up again, then in reality you need to ask yourself if you should even begin to consider running a business. A positive attitude will always prevail.

As to what types of franchise to choose in a recession? Well, choosing a franchise will depend on you, but in difficult climates often personel franchises do well as both partners may need to work to meet the monthly bills.
